Hello! Kim here today with a quick and easy Christmas Card project for kids!
With the social media craze today, I'm always on the lookout for ways to keep older forms of communication alive for my kids to enjoy. As a child, one of my favorite parts of Christmas was getting the mail everyday. I mean who doesn't LOVE to get real mail especially at Christmas time. Every envelope held its own surprise and I would slowly and deliberately open each and every one and smile.
Today, is no different. I love to open cards from friends and family...secretly hoping they contain pictures and a Christmas letter. Yes, I LOVE the Christmas letters....I read each and every one mulitple times. So in an effort to keep the tradition alive, I try (sometimes unsuccessfully) to create home made cards to mail to my friends and family. Here is the dilema...time. Isn't it always the way, lack of time stands in the way of good intentions.
But, here is where my kids come in....If I design a card that can be mass produced, my kids can do the busy work. Many hands make light work, after all...
This year, I enlisted the help of my Silhouette Electronic Die Cutting machine.
After choosing my image in the library, I set up my machine to cut out 12 Christmas trees at a time.
I trimmed down my paper into 4x6 pieces and placed them 6 up on my cutting mat. I used six different patterned papers to allow my kids options when putting the cards together. The mini prints in the 6x6 paper pads are perfect for this beacuse the prints are scaled down.
I then cut out photo frames to use as my background.
My kids were able to punch out little stars on their own...all that was left was to give them the December Doumented Alpha Sticker Sheet!
I think what I love best about having my kids make the cards, is that they are all just a little bit different. There is no right or wrong way to put them together only an idea to help them get started. The trees can have all diffferent prints or maybe all the same print...they can be straight or a little bit Charlie Brown...its all up to them.
Here are the first three off the "assembly line"...we will put away all the premade elements and try to create a set every week or so and by Christmas, we will be all ready to go!
I love the new December Documented collection and I'm excited to create my December Daily with it this year. Here is a layout I created with this collection for the show last July. At the time, all we had to play with was the paper...which is more than enough with all the amazing images and cards that come with the line.
Do you see those patchwork trees? That is where my idea came from for the trees on our cards this year.

What a great idea -- how can I purchase your products for personal use! The shop doesn't have prices or an "add to cart" tool. Thanks for sharing!

Such a great idea! I'm very sure my kids will love to make their Christmas cards since they do it yearly. They are enjoying making some designs for their Christmas cards.
