So Very Thankful Mini

Good morning everyone! I'm here today to share the beginning of my "So Very Thankful" mini album. Thanksgiving is a great time to reflect about everything we're thankful for, and for me, to recap everything we did the year prior. I combined both of those ideas into my mini and is my second year capturing my yearly moments and thanks this way.

I used a combination of Harvest Lane Sn@p pages and divided page protectors, adding in Harvest Lane 4x6 journaling card inserts and papers cut to size.

On this page, I added a Harvest Lane Sn@p pocket to hide some journaling- "10 Things I'm Grateful For". I plan on adding a lot more of these throughout the album as it gets put together. The other side is a spread about my son and all the changes he's gone through this past year.

Next up is a page for my goofy husband and, beside it, an insert about my extended family.

I kept most of these pages and inserts really simple- the focus is really on the story. This is what makes Simple Stories so great- all their collections make this so easy and it comes together so quickly!

I couldn't resist using this page to show a funny picture of my husband and I from way back in middle school. I'm really thankful we managed to bump back into each other 7 years later!

This page is a great example of how easy this mini is- I just cut the 4x6 card in the top section, added my journaling, and that was all it took. I could have embellished it a bit more, but as I said, this mini is more about the story.

I even utilized the backside of the card- it shows through to the other side of the page protector. It saves paper, helps me fill some space, and adds a cute sentiment to echo the theme of the mini.

This is as far as I've gotten into my mini but plan to keep adding throughout the next few months. At the very end, I'll include photos from our Thanksgiving and then it will be time to break out the December Daily!

Mix & Match Album: Take the Journey {Part 2 of 2}

 

Hello All!  Wendy here to inspire you & share up the rest of my "Take the Journey" album previously shared up in Part 1 of 2 here.

I'm sure you all are loving the new releases from Simple Stories revealed up at the past CHA summer show and two of those collections were Harvest Lane and Take a Hike!  I worked with both of these collections on my project and actually combined them both in this project share titled "Take the Journey". Both collections speak together in colors, patterns, and also shows you how well the Simple Stories concept works in documenting the journey in the page protector format in a cohesive way!  Many times I'll grab & cross mingle collections in one project and they are just always "on-point" in matching up!

In this project I used the elements of Simple Stories along with random bits of lots of stamping and details to highlight the theme and mood of the album...a masculine blend with the outdoorsy. Hope that makes sense! :)

A bit into this album.....My boyfriend, Vincenzo (Enzo for short), is Italian and lives in Austria and he is quite the adventurous with skiing, fishing, scuba diving, an amazing "green thumb" in growing roses, and just enjoying the outdoors and quite just the landscape seeker. So, in essence, these collections were the perfect backdrop in putting together my album plus the colors are pretty magical for autumn too!  He's coming to visit me in November here in the States where I live on the Gulf of AL, so I'm sure more adventures... :)

Also, the 6x8 Mix & Match Simple Stories albums are just perfection for weekend trips, sweet journeys new & old, and capturing the everyday.   

Oh, and Sn@p will be bringing that into an entire new level of cool.ness.

Mix & Match Album: Take the Journey {Part 1 of 2}

 

Hello All!  Wendy here to inspire you a bit today. It's been awhile since I posted around here and now that the CHA Summer Show jets have cooled off, time to share up my project created for the Simple Stories booth. If you were a lucky duck to be at the show, I'm sure you LOVED all the new releases from Simple Stories revealed up at the show and two of those collections were Harvest Lane and Take a Hike!  I worked with both of these collections on my project and actually combined them both in this project share titled "Take the Journey". Both collections gel really well together in colors, patterns, and also shows you how well the Simple Stories concept works in documenting the journey in the page protector format in a cohesive way!

Typically, my projects have spiced it up with lots of details and packed with Simple Stories goodies, so I'm going to break up this album into 2 posts, Part 1 of 2 and Part 2 of 2.  

Without further ado, let's roll on with the project share, Part 1 of 2...

Mix & Match Album: "Week In The Life" {Part 2 of 2}

 

Hi All!   Wendy here to share up my Part 2 of 2 post for this month to document my "Week-in-the-Life" {Apr 23 - 29}.  It was a pretty monumental & epic week of many emotions, discoveries, feelings...so to process-document-inhale it all, I broke up this blog post into 2 parts.  Wellllllll,  actually, there is a 6x8 Mix & Match design team blog hop happening June 4th and I'll actually bring in a Part 3/BONUS share in that hop because I simply can't share it all up in this post.  But in this share you will see actual completed pages from my album, titled "Eat Pray Love", along with some closeups and creative tidbits that inspired me.  As shared up in Part 2, I used a crazy mix of Simple Stories collections (and bare with me as I develop the supply list for ya...) -- Destinations, Life Documented, Generations, Awesome, Documented, Year.o.graphy...yes, those & moreeee -- but this just proves how amazingggggg how all the collection mix & match so well together!

For now, let's continue & roll on to Part 2 of 2 (aka Part 2 of 3)....

Why did I choose the title, "Eat Pray Love"? Well, first, I absolutely LOVE the book (and the movie), but the movie lacks a bit of the humor & some of the beauty of the actual book. Second, on a personal note (which I usually don't do much in the blog world but I feel it's a big part of sharing this in understanding my journey for this album), I can so relate to Elizabeth's life along many parallels -- divorce from a marriage of 7 years (in my case, a husband who cheated), lost love, a 3 year period of healing, self-discovery, heartache, acceptance, recharging & rediscovering myself emotionally, staying optimistic, finding my strength in prayer, world travel (in my past job as an international auditor), always staying confident, independent, and opening my heart to love again in such a random way of love finding me.  

(and throwing in some good food, makes for a beautiful journey too).

Beautiful.  

So, with that bit of background put out there....I really drew on the quotes from the book that inspired my pages and paved my journey in the "week-in-the-life", so ironically, these quotes transpired into my book after I took the photos....sometimes things work artistically in this way.  Also, to add, I didn't build my album in actual sequence - Day 1, Day 2, etc... - but really dove into the actual journey and not so much focus on the actual days of the week, know what I mean?  

(and my vintage typewriter received quite the workout in this album...) 

The 4x6 journal cards are perfect for paragraph type journaling.  Great for sharing more than a sentence or two and to really document your story.

Here I cut a transparency to 4x6 and saved my baggage claim sticker and attached to the transparency.

Don't forget to document that part of the journey in getting there/the beginnings to your destination.  I took this photo on the escalator at the London Gatwick airport and while sitting on the plane for my connecting flight.

This map paper is from the Destinations collection.  I played further on details with stamps, badges, stickers from Destinations, and tapes.

Don't forget to save the flight stubs from your entire journey.  Here I saved the small stubs and stapled them to the top of my page -- those many connections & the long hours for the journey.

I also typed directly on my photos for some pages, plus some more stamping, rubons, and splash of colored pearls/bling.

I wanted this page to be clean & simple, along with the black & white photo, but with the focus on the journaling.  This paper in the Documented collection comes with the 6x8 albums and is just perfect for journaling.

I used fluid chalk to color the rather plain raw wood arrows.

Here I saved our bus schedules in Italy cut to 4x6 size for the 4x6 page protectors.  I clipped the Europcar from the business card.

We speak in Italian to one another, because his English is very minimal, but these are the moments to capture.  Words = beautiful memories.

I took the picture of a circus tent while we were strolling on the streets in Italy after breakfast one day.  Then, I remembered this passage from the book and this was just "fate" the parallel of how it all came together.

Undiscovered streets, and you never know what's around the corner, one of the many reasons I love Europe and even better with the one you love.

 

 

He & I are both comics (as we like to think) ha! (and serious, when needed)...but we both agree "it's ok" despite the distance, we draw strength better together as two, "it's ok".

 

Yeah, look out Nicholas Sparks. We are planning the sequel....Seriously, I pinch myself, "is this for real?" 
One day at a time...staying positive (despite the distance of 5,000 miles) + life is good.
Always make it good.

A Simply Creative Project Life

Happy Monday Simple Stories fans! I hope you had as restful and productive of a weekend as I did. Although by the calendar, summer may be a month away, summer has arrived here in the Valley of the Sun with triple digit temperatures and constant blue skies. That also means that I'm on break and staying indoors with my air conditioner. So, what better time to play catch up on all the Project Life layouts I have yet to complete. Even though I've fallen WAY behind, I love the concept too much to give up. With Simple Stories divided page protectors and elements system though, I don't have to worry! 

I know I've said it before, but I love the ability to mix and match the various lines together. For Week 5, I combined the brand new Summer Fresh (loved the denims), Documented (love those neutral tones), and the Destinations (what better line for a week of traveling) lines together. 

This top section was created by first cutting the Summer Fresh pattern into a 5x12 size. Then, I used the Simple Stories/Unity map stamp to create the background. I layered a Destinations border sticker along the top. I then cut an Elements Border strip from Destinations and adhered to the top so that the end result was a 6x12" background. A few stickers, photos, and staples (my favorite embellishment, I think) and voila. 

For this section, I used a 4x6 vertical Element from the Summer Fresh line. I didn't really do much except exacto cut the little ribbon/banner piece so that it would overlap the photo rather than be underneath it.

This section was also created with the Summer Fresh 4x6 vertical Elements. Again, so simple, a few added stickers and staples and I was done. 

So, if you are falling behind on your own Project Life albums, don't stress about it! Just grab your Simple Stories lines and go to town. Don't be afraid to mix "seasons" and "themes" either! Look how well Summer Fresh fit with the winter photos of my Week 5. There are no rules. So, just scrap and enjoy.

Mix & Match Album: "Week In The Life" {Part 1 of 2}

 

Hi All!   Wendy here to share up my Part 1 of 2 post for this month to document my "Week-in-the-Life" {Apr 23 - 29}. I believe many a soul participated in Ali's "week-in-the -life" project that week and it's such a cool thing to do.  Well, I had a very very adventurous and incredible week overseas to Austria to visit my boyfriend who is from Italy and lives in Salzburg, Austria (he's pretty much in.cre.di.ble x 10....) but you can read more about all that over on my blog, BUT I wanted to capture  the week with the Simple Stories 6x8 Mix & Match Documented Album (which you can check out more about those here).  

Just the PERFECT size for this type of project!  These albums are sold out many places online and in stores but you find them re-stocked VERY soon!  Seriously, I see WHY they are so popular! :)  

This project & album is "do-able" because it's not too large/overwhelming in capturing a week or so and the format of this album is incredible with all the neat protectors, journaling pages, etc.  Also, you will find MANY pieces I used from mostly the 6x6 Simple Stories paper pads to work into this album.  So, to capture a week in your life would be a great warm-up for the popular December Daily albums when that time rolls around.

So, without further words, here's the bones to how it started....

I started prepping my album before I went on my trip because in mind I knew the colors, mood, paper choice, embellishments, well, the framework for how I wanted to to put the album together.  So, I cut all my elements and put them in a container so when the photos were taken, printed, and ready to work into the album, all the "scrippy scrappy fussy cutting" was done. Also, I used cross collections of Simple Stories meaning I worked in Documented, Fabulous, Destinations, Awesome, Year.o.graphy....ALL of these collections "mix & mingle" so beautifully together, it's like Simple Stories magic at its finest!  

Plus, so many of the elements of Simple Stories - 4x6 inserts, ATC size cards, etc. - all fit beautifully into the protectors that come with the album.   

 

I decided to alter the covers & inside pages with Mod Podge and adhering the papers to the sturdy chipboard covers. 

I will add the title of the trip + Week in the Life 4/23 - 4/29, 2012 later but there's a perfect spot for that on the spine of the album all ready for it.

I decided on the title of my album based on the book & movie, Eat Pray Love, which draws so many parallels to my life, divorce from 7 years of marriage, experiences, lost love, finding myself on that personal journey & healing, traveling the world, and opening my heart to new love now...so many epic moments for me on this journey and at this point in my life in reflecting back.  Plus, I love to eat (yep, I do) and prayer always moves me through being strong and confident to move forward in all parts of my life.

So, my week happened....and WOW, what a week....that you will see unfold in Part 2 of 2 later this month of my album share.

but for now, I'm sharing up my first page inside my album.  Here I used the Simple Stories co-brand Unity Stamps and some embellishments from my stash.

LOVE the Simple Stories transparencies in the different collections!  Perfect to split down the middle & cut to size for these page protectors included in the album.  Just a different twist than using paper!

Simply Creative: Project Life - Week One

Can you believe we are almost halfway through January already Simple Stories fans? I am in full swing trying to organize and prepare for the start of the semester. So, I wanted to be sure to get on top of my Project Life album. As promised, I'm going to share my journey at times here on the blog. I was so excited to put week one together. 

I again started with a divided page protector with 6, 4x6 pockets. But I had a lot to discuss during this first week, and too many photos to use as well. So, I made this week a 2-page spread. 

Once again, I used mostly the Year-O-Graphy line.

Here's how the first side came together:

 

I love how versatile that line is! How much do I love that this line features almost a full sheet of number stickers? Oh yes, SO much!

I also grabbed some of my favorite Simple Stories/Unity Stamps for week one. I have to say that I LOOOVE my Unity/Simple Stories stamps. They create such wonderful, clear images! 

But I think my favorite part of this week is the second page to the spread. I was recently perusing our website, and I am embarrassed to admit that I didn't know something about Simple Stories until quite recently. Each line features a full page, 12x12 special journaling sheet. How did I not understand this before? So, I decided to try it with my Week 1 layout and I have to say, this paper is brilliant! I absolutely love how it came out. I simply added a few photos and a couple of embellishments and voila'. This page was done. 

I loved sort of freestyling with this particular page. I didn't actually do the list of top ten, but the photos captured the sentiment.

When I'd run out of things to say about the week, I just added a label sticker and my current favorite Simple Stories/Unity stamp

Year in Review with GLUE ARTS!

Happy New Year! I can't wait to see what 2012 has in store for me, I love fresh beginnings, new challenges, and fun adventures! 2011 was full of wonderful moments and 2012 is shaping up to have even more moments - a new baby in the family, a wedding, even a few family trips are in the plans.  But, before I get all excited about what's to come, I like to capture the past year in photos.  This time, I'm using the Simple Stories signature system of elements and page protectors to help me.  Year.o.graphy is the perfect collection for this kind of project. 

To make things even better, I was lucky enough to receive some fabulous adhesives from Glue Arts to help me. At first I was skeptical, after all I am a liquid glue kind of scrapbooker.  I've never used a tape runner and lots of things went through my mind - is it too heavy? is it cumbersome?  is to hard to use? Well, let me tell you, I was in for a surprise!  I may even be a convert! The Glue Glider Pro was light, efficient, and very easy to use.  In fact, it was easier than liquid glue when it came to my journaling strips. It was absolutely the perfect adhesive for photos, embellishments and papers!

I am a fan of all the dimensional adhesives that Glue Arts carries, but for this project I was looking for flat cards that I could easily slip into the page protector sleeves.  I want to send a big thank you to Glue Arts for sharing those 3D glues with me and I will be using them in the future for sure!

Okay, so on to my project.  I created 4 pages, each with 3 months of 2011 documented on them.  I loved the ease of the 4x6 elements with the large month abreviations on them --- I basically just slipped them into my sleeves with some journaling strips on them!  I know I've said it before, but super quick & easy!

The photos were all created in Photoshop where I changed them all to a vintage B & W and cropped them down to 1.5 x 2 inches.  Then I dropped the photos 2 by 2 onto a 4 x 6 blank photo background so that after they were printed I could cut them out to look like mini polaroid pics!  I love how cute they are!

Blog Swap Event with Glue Arts & Simple Stories: Wendy

Hi all!! Wendy here to share up my project from the sweet collab blog swap event of Simple Stories & Glue Arts!  What a fabulous union, eh?!  I mean I'm quite partial anyway to Glue Arts adhesives because when you stumble upon a great adhesive, you pretty much marry it and there is no other that beats it.  Trust me, they aren't paying me to plug this, BUT I do believe in a great adhesive and their glue dots are my all time fav and last for.ever. and a day. 

and coordinating page projects that work with the Simple Stories system.  The perfect match.  Since I'm a girl that likes to go "out-of-the-box", I prone to clip these page protectors up.  There's no set rule here peeps.

But today, I'm sharing up my project featuring Simple Stories Year.o.graphy.  There are so many "Project Life" albums all a-buz & kicking off on blogs & scrappy boards.  Well, Year.o.graphy is a PERFECT collection to capture those year-long memories!  There are SO many elements in this one kit to the max to document all year, it's not even funny!  Also, think how perfect Life Documented will go along with it too.  Shoot, ALL the collections will be great!  Ok, off my sale pitch, because I'm not on Simple Stories payroll (last time I checked)....

Anyhoo, I'm definitely planning to use LOTS of it in my Project Life album this year.  What can I say?  My December Daily albums motivated me to do this year long thing and I'm gonna take a stab at it (pray for my success, pleaseeeee) :))  

So, to start it off, I've created my starter page/opening page based around my OLW ("one little word") chosen for 2012, "OPEN".  I can go on & on into details later over at my blog for choosing this word later but it hit me in the face the other day, yep. Epiphany. Ka-Pow.  Last year, 2011, my OLW was "fearless" and I feel rather pleased in fulfilling in and pretty much live by it daily.   

Oh, well, first, let me get my adhesives ready to tell you about, because that is important to assemble my project, eh?  

First, let me get my gun, don't be alarmed, this bad boy doesn't shoot bullets, but it's the perfect gun of gliding adhesive (tape runner style).  Oh and this stuff. sticks. (hence, the name "PermaTac") LOVE IT!  but one of my fav parts about this is how easy the load function was....no bobbins to flip out, spin over, twist off, pop around, you get it, dig for the packaging out of the trash (deepppp in the trash past the banana peelings) and try to understand loading the cartridge [insert this is NOT your first time to load this thing]....but 2 steps...

1. Slide in the cartridge into the glider gun holder.

2. Snap into place, you'll hear that "click".  That's seriously, it. (hm, I rhymed.)

Now for my project...

I created up a 6x12 page.  Yeppers, there is this size in the Simple Stories collections.  So FUN & different.  The actual paper in the Year.o.graphy pack is Year.o.graphy - Signature Elements - 6x12 Page Elements #1915.  

anddddd....there is even a coordinating page protector from WRMK to fit that too...of courseeee.  You can find the packages of assorted protectors here.

Now a bit of the bones in the making of my page...

The 3-D U Cut it Foam Blanks are perfect when you want to customize the side the "pop dot" you need.  You might want the entire sheet (but I can tell ya, I wouldn't do that because I'm a slight conservative hoarder), if that floats your boat, go for it.  Also, comes with a great storage pouch you can throw in your crop bag.

I clipped what I needed using non-stick scissors.  

So, here I used the 3-D U Cut it Foam Blanks on the back of my photo strip.  Also used this same adhesive on the embellishments below.

Here in the photo above, I had some leftover raw chipboard alphas from the Maya Road event last month and painted these with some spray paint (or you can use acrylic paint).

The PermaTac in the GlueGlider Pro is a great rolling adhesive.  I used this adhesive for the flatter elements on my page.

Here using a cool calendar stamp from Unity Stamps (co-brand Simple Stories).  I used this stamp behind the photo strip shown earlier.

Simple Style - It's All About the Page Protector

 

Hello Hello!  Wendy here with some "Simple Style" using the page protector system from Simple Stories.  You can read more about how this AWESOME system works here. 

Really, it doesn't get any better than grabbing a batch of page protectors, your fav collection from Simple Stories [I used LIfe Documented] 4x6 pics from your stash, 12" trimmer, and fav journaling pen.  Simple, right?  

This is exactly what I did & voila!
