Hi it's me, Amber, posting today! I am the founder and owner of Simple Stories (along with my fabulous husband). I am usually behind the scenes busy with design and product development and I don't get a chance to post as much as I'd like. That's why I'm so thankful to have a wonderful Simple Stories design team and Life Documented team - as well as our fabulous director of marketing Layle Koncar - to help run the blog and keep fresh, exciting ideas and inspiration coming on a daily basis!
Although I'm crazy busy putting the final touches on our new product releases (you'll get to see sneak peeks starting in mid-july), I wanted to take a minute to post during our Life Documented series to give you a little backstory on how Simple Stories came to be. With the release of our all new 12x12 albums and pocket pages (shipping July) - a dream I've had for what seems like forever - it's only fitting to take you back to the roots of Simple Stories and the base of our entire company, our products and our system. Sure you can read our "About Us" here, and Layle even highlighted a little here...but I actually wanted to SHOW you how our products, concept and company came to be. Sometimes it's as simple as....
.....THIS - it's what started it ALL!
See this - this is a Disney album I created in 2007. I was so excited to document our Disney memories of our children's first trip to Disneyland. I bought this album at Target and couldn't wait to fill it to the brim with photos and memories - at the time I loved the idea of saving time by just inserting my photos into pockets in these standard photo albums.
So I took this album, all 3,000 + photos (okay maybe not that many - but you know it's Disney!!), and loads of paper and embellsihemnts to a weekend scrapbook getaway with a group of my girl friends. I worked on this album non-stop for 4 days, cutting, trimming, gluing, embellishing - basically creating ALL of my 4x6 cards to slip into these pocket pages along with my photos.
You would think that with that much time my album would be complete right? Not so - I didn't even finish all of my "personalized" 4x6 cards that weekend - it still took me months to finish and insert my photos after that.
So what about the journaling - surlely I had time to add cute little quotes or the perfect sentiments to go on these cards in my album. Nope. As you can see from the photos didn't happen - it was crazy to me that for the intention of being a "quick", "easy" and "simple" album - it had turned out to be a major project. The way I saw it is it doesn't make it simple, quick or easy if you still have to create your own elements or cards to insert into the pocket pages.
And really - that's where my idea for creating pre-designed 4x6 cards and elements to compliment divided page protector scrapboking originated - becuase I was looking for a system just like Simple Stories for myself. I wanted to create quick and beautiful albums so I could document my life in a simple, yet meaningul way - and the pre-designed cards and elements in just the right sizes for all types of page pocket scrapbooking like 4x6, 3x4, 4x4, 6x8 and even 2x12, 4x12 and 6x12 elements were the key and core to our concept and system. In the fall of 2009 that dream became a reality when we launched our first Simple Stories kit - Life Documented with the the original pre-designed elements that you see in our collections today - to a group of scrapbook consultants and by Winter 2011 we launched our Simple Stories brand and concept industry wide. It has been such a journey....and to think it all started with a Disney album!
Sooooo...now that I've shown you a little about where our Simple Stories concept came from...and my "finished" album, take a look at this same album just 6 years later.
Yup - that same album that I put my heart and soul into and trusted to be a long-lasting cherished keepsake for my family to enjoy - look at it now. After years of our family and kids looking through it, laughing, and remembering - it completely fell apart!
THIS is exactly why its so important to have high-quality albums and page protectors - after all they are storing your precious memories and workmanship. We KNOW how important your memories are and the time you spend creating layouts and pages to enjoy these memories - that's why our number one priority is quality and functional products so you can continue to share your stories for years to come!
